Project Data:
Client: Green Diamond Resource
Location: Seattle, Washington

Design Statement:

Green Diamond Resource is a timber company specializing in sustainably grown California redwood, Douglas-fir, alder and cedar. Their timber lands and mills are located in northern California, Oregon and Washington. The natural beauty of both their products and land holdings were the main source of inspiration. The color of glacial fed rivers is reflected in both glass and fabric, and strategically located walls of natural stone mimic stone outcroppings found on their properties. The design for the space celebrates the beauty of Redwood and Douglas fir, highlighting their beauty and serving as a show case for their products.

Another source of inspiration is the mechanical equipment used to harvest and mill their product. Aluminum and natural colored steel were used for window frames and door handles to honor this part of their business. Historical sepia toned black and white photographs are located throughout the space to remind employees and visitors of the company’s long heritage.

Sustainability goals were met by using sustainably grown wood products, replacing inefficient lighting with efficient lamps and using carpet and fabrics with high recycled content throughout. RBA Furniture Solutions, a sister company to RBA Design, refurbished and reconfigured their existing workstations. This allowed them to attain a dramatically improved work environment in a sustainable manner. By keeping their existing furniture they kept a significant amount of product out of the landfill while positioning their company
for the future.
