Design Statement:

When Darigold decided to vacate their outdated headquarters they turned to RBA Design to help them find a new building.

A needs assessment and evaluation criteria checklist was developed and RBA worked with CBRE real estate to look at options. These covered a broad range of options including a schematic design of a new building for a piece of property Darigold owned.

The winning solution was the Black Manufacturing building in the Rainier Valley. This classic building with a high window to floor plate ratio met all their criteria. In particular, the historical character fit Darigold’s desire to emphasize the longevity of the company.

RBA Design created a sustainable design and their associated company, RBA Furniture Solutions, provided all the furniture and move management services. The furniture consists of new furnishings in the lobby and common areas with refurbished Herman Miller Ethospace workstations used for the open plan areas. The use of recycled furnishings met Darigold’s goal of creating a new office environment that maximizes sustainability. The project consists of 60,000 SF of office space on three floors including a major data center and food test kitchen.
