Design Statement:
LifeSpan BioSciences is the world leader in the emerging fields of Molecular Pathology and Tissue Proteomics. They called upon RBA Design to design their new 48,000 square feet office and laboratory facility. Many challenges faced the project. These included acquiring special zoning permits to place medical laboratories on the upper floors of a Seattle high rise, two phase fast track construction and installing a large backup generator. The laboratory includes pathology work benches, a radiation photography darkroom, engineering labs and multiple exhaust and chemical storage challenges. The company has one of the largest tissue collections in the world and the storage facilities feature sub-zero storage equipment, and special security and fire safety systems.
